The client

DSV is a world-leading supplier of global transportation and logistics. DSV has 60,000 employees in more than 90 countries. For DSV to estimate time of arrival and to predict loss, Addition developed a flexible data platform that connects non-standardised tracking data with shipments and prepares the data for machine learning.

The data sets are also delivered to DSV’s major clients via an API. A user interface gives DSV a visual overview of shipments and their status.

Due to the vast amount of transport management systems and changing data parameters, predicting arrival times on freight is very challenging. To meet this challenge, Addition developed a data platform, which was able to handle and pair different types of data parameters. The platform should handle varying data parameters for ultimate flexibility, so a service BUS was used to connect the data units.

Since the project was developed as a PoT (Proof of Technology), it made sense to run it with an agile approach. The data platform was developed using all Azure services for full scalability and flexibility. To ensure continuous alignment with DSV, Addition facilitated multiple workshops throughout the project, so the client was closely involved in the process.

In cooperation with our partner Datamaga, Addition developed a live dashboard monitoring and tracking deliveries within the entire logistic chain. The dashboard can be used to predict deviations and deliver automated early email warnings to customers. This helps DSV to offer an optimised customer experience and minimize costs associated with transportation delays.
